Mac O‘Grady Swing Analysis
An analysis of one of the most mechanically sound swings of all time. Mac O'Grady has one of the most brilliant minds in golf and a swing to match.
Sam Snead
Perhaps the most graceful and smooth swing of all time that won a PGA Tour record 82 tournaments. Watching Sam swing was like watching ice cream melt on a hot day. Nobody ever looked so graceful yet generated so much power. He was such a long hitter that he was nicknamed "The Slammer". Sam had a very long swing that was competitive for several decades. He even made the cut in a PGA Tour event at the ripe old age of 67. Sam was known for his smooth tempo and his famous "sit down" move as he transitioned from the backswing into the downswing. A move that is still being taught today. If Sam were still alive and in his prime he would still be one of the best players in the world.
Jack Nicklaus
Arguably the greatest golfer of all time. Jack won 72 Professional tournaments and a record 20 major championships in his career. The photos below show the massive amount of power that he had allowing him to dominate professional golf for decades. I could go on and on about all the great stuff that the golden bear had going for him but I will condense it to this...He was arguably "The greatest mind in golf, the greatest pressure putter, and the longest hitter of his day. Being a tremendously long high ball hitter, a great putter, and mentally disciplined is a recipe for golfing success!!!
Tiger Woods
Ben Hogan
Where does one even begin to describe the mystique of the great Ben Hogan? Many would say that he was the greatest striker of the ball of ALL time! Ben didn't have early success that many of the golfing greats of all time have enjoyed. He struggled on the tour for 10 years and went broke 3 times before finally having a break thru win. Just as he was beginning to gain momentum by way of extremely had work his career took a detour when he had a head on collision with a Greyhound Bus on a foggy night in 1949. He was told later on that based upon the evidence from the wreck had he not dove across the front seat of his car to protect his wife Valerie that he would have surely died. None the less, he still suffered very serious injuries including a double pelvis fracture, a fracture of the collar bone, Fractured left ankle, chipped ribs, and a near fatal blood clot. The doctors told him that he may never walk again let alone play golf. The determined Hogan miraculously returned to competitive golf 11 months later to claim the 1950 US Open Championship.
The Hogan mystique was born from long practice sessions that eventually produced one of the most fundamentally sound swings in the history of golf coupled with a steely mental game and a quiet yet intimidating demeanor. Bantam Ben as he was known due to his slight build was know for having complete control of his golf ball at all times with a swing that produced piercing bullets. His swing was very flat and short with a brisk tempo and a weak grip that he developed to fight the low hook that plagued him during his early years. Study the photos below and you will see functional perfection at nearly every stage of his swing, particularly through impact!!!

Lee Trevino
One of my top 3 favorite swings of all time and also one of the most underrated swings of all time that happened to have won 6 major championships. One of the greatest ball strikers of all time. Lee hit piercing fades with his unique swing. He once said "I aim left, swing right, and walk straight". Notice the bowed left wrist and closed clubface at the top of the backswing. A trait of several of the greats such as Arnold Palmer, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Keopka, and The straight hitting Bruce Litzke. Lee shallowed the shaft starting down and cleared his left side better than anybody. Very similar style of Jim Furyk. A bowed left wrist, shallow shaft angle on the downswing, and a cleared lower body is a perfect recipe for pure ball striking.
Arnold Palmer
The king of cool....Enough said!
Mac O'grady
The One of my top favorite swings!!! A model of total efficiency. Mac is one of the greatest ball strikers and brilliant golf minds of all-time. A two time winner on the PGA Tour, Mac became a mythical figure due to his deep understanding of the swing. He was also ambidextrous and could break par from both sides of the ball. A true genius!!!
